Notre histoire Jon Thatcher a grandi à proximité de Ticonderoga, dans l'État de New York, où sa famille vit depuis des générations. Après avoir travaillé dans l'éducation en tant qu'enseignant et dirigeant pendant plus de 15 ans, Jon a décidé de changer de carrière et de trouver un moyen de revenir dans le nord du pays. Lors d'un long voyage en camping-car au début de 2024, Jon est tombé amoureux de la culture du camping-car et a commencé à chercher des terrains de camping à vendre dans les Adirondacks. Finalement, Jon a trouvé Shady Oaks et a acheté la propriété en août 2024 avec la détermination de redonner vie à la propriété et de rendre les Adirondacks plus accessibles aux visiteurs. Histoire de Shady Oaks Shady Oaks a ouvert ses portes sous le nom de Oak Knoll Campground à la fin des années 1970. Au fil du temps, le camping s'est agrandi et a été rebaptisé Shady Oaks RV Park, qui était le nom du parc lorsque Jon l'a acheté. En hommage au passé, le camping continuera de s'appeler Shady Oaks, mais avec l'aspiration de devenir un complexe de camping de premier ordre dans les prochaines années. L'aménagement actuel du terrain de camping occupe environ 13 acres sur une parcelle de terrain d'environ 44 acres et comprend une infrastructure pour 103 emplacements de camping avec branchement complet. Compte tenu de l'âge du terrain de camping, les terrains sont grands et la plupart sont bien ombragés par l'aménagement paysager mature. Et ensuite ? En raison de la pandémie et d’autres défis matériels, le camping avait besoin de rénovations importantes lorsque Jon l’a acheté. Des travaux sont actuellement en cours pour améliorer les infrastructures, moderniser les équipements et concrétiser la vision complète du Shady Oaks Camping Resort. Avant son ouverture en mai 2025, le camping sera raccordé à l'eau publique, le service électrique d'au moins quinze emplacements de camping sera mis à niveau à 50 ampères, le terrain du parc bénéficiera d'un nettoyage complet et le bâtiment principal sera presque entièrement rénové pour inclure un magasin de camping rénové, des salles de bain modernisées, une buanderie plus grande et une « grande salle » qui offrira de nombreux espaces pour que les invités puissent se rassembler et créer une communauté.
