About shady oaks

I’m Jon, owner of Shady Oaks Camping Resort. I grew up in Ticonderoga and returned to the North Country in 2024 to purchase the former Shady Oaks RV Park. What began as a midlife leap has become a hands-on effort to restore and care for this old, quirky campground. My hope is to build something lasting here — a welcoming, well-cared-for place that reflects the character of this region and gives people a reason to slow down, settle in, and come back year after year.

Meet the Buckminster — our first glamping tent at Shady Oaks.

We built it to create another way to experience camping here, especially for guests who want to spend time in the North Country but don’t have an RV.

The tent sits on a raised platform and is designed to feel simple, comfortable, and close to the outdoors — a place to sleep well after a day of hiking, exploring, or sitting around the campfire.

We named it the Buckminster as a nod to Buckminster Fuller, whose ideas about thoughtful design and efficient structures helped inspire the space.

Summer weekends are already starting to fill, and reservations for the upcoming season are open now. Guests who book before April 30 can also take advantage of our early reservation incentives.

Expect a few casual gatherings, campfire conversations, and plenty of time to connect — along with space to explore the Adirondacks and North Country at the height of summer.

We built the Buckminster because we wanted to create another way to experience camping here — especially for people who don’t have an RV but still want to spend time exploring the Adirondacks and the North Country.

Before the tent ever went up, we had to build the platform. Framing, leveling, making sure the foundation was solid. The structure came first — the tent exterior and then the flooring and interior followed.

We named it the Buckminster as a nod to Buckminster Fuller —the inventor of the geodesic dome and someone known for thoughtful design and structures that do more with less.
